Role/Job Title

Clinical Specialist (Scotland)

Urgo Medical

Brief CV

I am a professional, initiative-taking registered nurse (adult nurse BSc 2006, family planning diploma 2008, non-medical prescribing 2017) with over 18 years’ experience in wound care, specifically in leg ulcers and palliative care. I worked as a Senior Community staff nurse dealing with a range of long-term conditions and multiple complexes both physically and mentally before joining Urgo Medical as a clinical specialist for Scotland.

I have always been very passionate about caring for patients holistically, providing care that is of high quality and valuing the individuality of every patient. These core values drive me every day in my current role to support specialist and generalist clinicians who provide care for patients with wounds (tissue viability nurses, community nurses, vascular nurses and podiatrists) throughout Scotland. My role involves supporting clinicians with understanding advanced wound care products and compression therapy in relation to caring for patients with wounds. I frequently support local evaluation of advanced wound care and service provision, analyse and present data as well as supporting development of publications to share clinical work at a local, national and international level. I provide education to empower clinicians on all wound related topics including wound care, leg ulcers, pressure ulcers and skin tears. I facilitate and coordinate local network group meetings to support clinical supervision, service development and business skills.

I have developed productive relationships with healthcare professionals across the multidisciplinary team and am able to remain calm and objective in a high-pressured environment. I enjoy team working, creating collaborative relationships to facilitate work goals, and share information effectively. My ability to communicate with others cultivates trustworthiness within a team, and I use opportunities to communicate with an audience ensuring understanding and diligence. I enjoy teaching and find the different learning of individuals challenging yet rewarding.

I am committed to address challenges to drive change towards ethical, evidence based and high-quality care for people with wounds, upholding the values of patient-centered care which aligns with the core principles of the Society of Tissue Viability and the Nursing and Midwifery Council. I am a practicing clinician and remain dedicated to providing wound care that is supported by science and in partnership with the patient’s beliefs and expectations. If considered I would demonstrate commitment to the role of Trustee and be able to bring different skills set to compliment the group. I would enjoy being part of a collaborative team that is dedicated to positive change
