Stephen is medically trained with an MSc and PhD in disability and rehabilitation. He has been an electric powered wheelchair user for 43 years following an accident as a medical student.

He is currently, Chair of the PPIE (University of Southampton) research project investigating the use of Continuous Pressure Monitoring to reduce the incidence of pressure sores.
