Let’s continue the national effort to prevent pressure ulcers and raise awareness – message from Jacqui Fletcher OBE, Clinical Lead for Tissue Viability, NHS England…

After the success of focussing on prevention for all in 2024 we wanted to follow a similar theme this year. Patients should be at the centre of all we do and so this year we want to focus our theme on them (and their carers), we want to understand what matters to them so that we can target our interventions and messaging so that they know we are putting them and what is important to them, first.

We will be thinking about where patients may be receiving care and what specific needs they may have at that moment in time, highlighting that care principles may change at different moments in the care journey, what works at home may not be the same in an acute admission episode such as a trip to A & E; equally what is relevant in hospital may not apply in a care home or hospice setting – also remembering particular needs as people move between all of these. We want to prepare resources not just for those who know that they are at risk or in a situation that increases their risk but also for those just beginning to understand this may apply to them – even if only in specific circumstances and engage them in planning what works best for them


This Year’s Theme: “What matters to me is…”

In 2025, the Society of Tissue Viability is turning the spotlight on the patient voice. We will be working across:

  • Accident and emergency departments
  • Hospital wards
  • Care homes and home care settings
  • End-of-life care situations
  • And everything in between

We’ll be asking both patients and clinicians:
