NICE supports the case for adopting UrgoStart dressings to treat diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers in the NHS, because they are associated with increased wound healing compared with non-interactive dressings. UrgoStart dressings are therefore recommended as an option for people with diabetic foot ulcers or venous leg ulcers after any modifiable factors such as infection have been treated.
Insights from the NHS: Adoption support for UrgoStart for treating diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers
To support use of this technology, NICE has now published a new adoption resource. The resource provides practical tips for adopting UrgoStart, from care pathway mapping and training staff, through to procurement and project management. It includes real-life examples of how NHS sites have used UrgoStart and has been created with the help of NHS clinicians, who reported a number of benefits, such as:
- improving patient outcomes in terms of wound healing and quality of life
- ease of use
- long-term cost savings.
