Kim Whitlock

Kim is the Tissue Viability Matron for North Bristol NHS Trust, one of the largest acute hospitals specialising in major trauma, renal, vascular and plastics. She has had numerous roles within the private and public sector including District Nurse Lead and Nursing Home Manager for one of the largest specialised Nursing Home’s in the South West. Kim is working towards her Masters in Tissue Viability at Cardiff University.
Since joining the team at NBT, Kim has implemented several pathways to ensure continuity of care for patients across the whole health care system of which this is her passion. This has included the introduction of compression bandaging for inpatients with venous/ mixed diseased ulceration and the adoption of an ICB wide lower limb pathway. Her previous experience within the social care sector has allowed Kim to forge new pathways to ensure continuity into rehabilitation facilities and she is currently working with nation wide colleagues on how this can be adopted across the NHS.
Kim has contributed to best practice statements in conjunction with Wounds UK with a strong focus on equality of care across the healthcare system. She won Runner Up the Urgo Medical Rising Star Award in 2024 and has recently presented her work with a collaborative leg ulcer pathway at EWMA 2025.
Kim continues to work clinically at NBT, providing advice, education and expertise around pressure ulcer prevention and management as well as complex wound management. She has successfully implemented system changes which have seen a continual reduction in hospital acquired pressure ulcers.
