Liz Rose

 

Liz qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1996 and specialises in the field of hand and upper limb therapy, burns rehabilitation and scar management, working with both adults and paediatrics.

Liz developed a particular interest in managing complex hand injuries and scars and working closely with individuals to optimise recovery and facilitate a return to independence in their life and work roles. She started a hand therapy and scar management private practice in 2001 and left the NHS in 2021 to focus solely on private practice.

Scar management

Abstract

This presentation will describe the mechanism of scar formation as a phase of the wound healing process and demonstrate the impact of scars on cosmesis, comfort and function.

Scar assessment and management techniques will be discussed, along with the rationale for their use.  These will include pressure therapy, silicones, laser, splints, exercises and stretches, mechanotherapy, electrotherapy, taping, the use of moisturisers, pain and itch management and positioning.
