Peter Cassidy

Peter has completed a part-time PhD in Human Behaviour in Fire at Ulster University. The aim of this study was to investigate potential intervention strategies and their effectiveness in minimising the risks associated with accidental dwelling fires for older people. This mainly examined the role of individuals, and agencies, that are in contact with people at risk and how they can be employed to reduce the risk from fire. The outcome of the PhD study was a collaboration between Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service and the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust called the Safer Together Project. The Safer Together Project produced a bespoke package of resources aimed at increasing the fire safety awareness of health and social care workers and service users in the community.
Peter has served with the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue service for sixteen years. Starting as a firefighter in Cadogan fire station before joining the Specialist Rescue Team, specialising in Rope Rescue, Water Rescue and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR). Peter is currently a Station Commander in the Protection Department and is a fire safety enforcement officer for NIFRS.
