About the European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (EPUAP)

The “European Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel” was created in London in December 1996 to lead and support all European countries in the efforts to prevent and treat pressure ulcers. At its inaugural meeting in London in December 1996, which included experts from many European countries, the group of over twenty agreed their mission statement and the initial Executive Board and Trustees.

Pressure ulcers: THE CLOCK IS TICKING! It’s time to:

  • Focus on multidisciplinary and differential diagnosis
  • Understand pressure ulcer aetiology
  • Individualize pressure ulcer prevention : early identification of the risk factors and implementation of care plans
  • Undertake pressure ulcer prevalence and incidence as quality of care and patient safety indicators
  • Avoid device-related pressure ulcers in clinical setting
  • Involve patients, families and caregivers in the prevention of pressure ulcers in the community
  • Educate healthcare professionals, patients, families and caregivers
  • Integrate artificial intelligence and new technologies in pressure ulcer prevention and treatment
  • Move forward and rehabilitate (rehabilitation and neurorehabilitation)
  • Prevent pressure ulcers in patients with comorbidities and rare diseases
  • Innovate in pressure ulcer treatment
  • Talk about cost effectiveness of pressure ulcer prevention
  • Consider the impact of the 2025 Guidelines
