A clinical focus on….
There are approximately 3.8 million adults in the UK living with a wound, the consequence of which has a significant impact on a person’s quality of life, as well as adding a considerable financial burden on health care providers.
The unwarranted variation in the treatment of wounds and underuse of evidence-based practice is a contributing factor in delayed healing.
Building on the knowledge delivered in our fundamental programme, these clinical focus sessions will provide delegates with the evidence necessary to provide safe and effective treatment when caring for people at risk of skin breakdown, or for those who are currently living with a wound. The content will provide a more in depth focus on the topic being discussed.
Who are these clinical focus sessions aimed at?
All Registered nurses, specialists or not, working with patients that have or are at risk of developing vulnerable skin or wounds: Community/ primary and secondary care, care homes, prisons, schools, etc.
It will also be relevant to podiatrists, GPs, Nursing Associates, other HCPs, pre-registration students or back to practice clinicians who work regularly with patients with vulnerable skin or wounds.
A Clinical focus on identifying and managing wound infection
Overview
Wound infection continues to be a challenge, both for people living with a wound and for those providing clinical care. It can lead to delayed healing and wound related symptoms that significantly impact quality of life such as malodour, excessive exudate and pain. Wound infection can also lead to more serious complications such as systemic infection, sepsis and even death.
This session will provide delegates with a greater understanding of wound infection and will share the best practice recommendations for preventing and managing this challenging wound complication.
By attending this session, delegates will have a better understanding of:
- The structure and characteristics of bacteria and what influences growth.
- The factors that increase the risk of developing wound infection
- The impact of infection on wound healing
- How to assess and diagnose wound infection
- The strategies required for preventing wound infection
- Best practice for treating and managing wound infection
- The national and global guidelines on infection and how to implement these in practice
Industry presentations
There will be an interactive presentation of wound care products and preventative aids from our industry partners..
Our Trustees look forward to welcoming you all virtually to the classroom
